Guilty plea in post office murder

Blackmon, pictured at right at his first appearance proceedings, received two consecutive life sentences, plus 40 years for robbery and arson. He was initially charged with capital murder, which carries the death penalty, but pleaded guilty to an amended charge of first degree murder. Less than 24 hours later, he brutally murdered an elderly woman he’d known all his life in order to steal her mini-van. Almost six months after that crime, he finds himself serving two consecutive life sentences, plus 40 years, for her death.
