VILONIA, Ark. (AP) — Daniel Cockrell, a youth education coordinator with The Department of Arkansas Heritage, told fifth-graders at Vilonia Elementary School that the movie “Gone with the Wind,” set in the South around the time of the Civil War, is fictional.

“It’s not real world stuff,” Cockrell said. “Women weren’t generally wearing freshly laundered hoop skirts but instead tattered clothing.”

A guest speaker at the school Thursday, Cockrell pointed to a wall in the classroom where the dates 1861-1865 were posted.
