Grad school numbers rise

FAYETTEVILLE (AP) — As the national economic recession continues, the number of applications for graduate school at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville continues to rise, officials say.

The university has received 947 applications this year, compared to 834 at the same time in 2008, said Collis Geren, the graduate school’s dean. While applications are still being reviewed, 229 students have been accepted, up from 152 at this time last year, he said.

“We’ll probably see 1,000 new graduate students, which is a huge class,” Geren told the Morning News of Springdale....
