LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Gov. Mike Beebe told lawmakers Wednesday he will ask to use up to $60 million of the state surplus to pay for currently unfunded programs in education, prisons and Medicaid.

Beebe proposed the figure in a letter presented to the Joint Budget Committee. The letter detailed $676 million in capital projects that he said he would like the Legislature to consider paying for with the General Improvement Fund.
