A fourth arrest has been made in an area steroid ring which netted arrests in Union and Columbia Counties and a half million dollars in drugs, drug paraphernalia, cash, and guns.

On Wednesday, the El Dorado Police Department  arrested Zachary Cherry for possession of a Schedule III narcotic and a warrant for delivery of a Schedule III narcotic. Officers took Cherry into custody at approximately 5 p.m., just as he arrived at Power Zone Fitness Center at 3717 N. West Ave. in El Dorado.

Agencies who are investigating the case include the Magnolia Police Department, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, El Dorado Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Southern Arkansas University Police Department, Camden Police Department, 13th Judicial Drug Task Force, Arkansas State Police, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations.

Officials say the investigation is continuing, and more arrests may be forthcoming.

•A Magnolia man was killed Wednesday, Dec. 11, in a one-vehicle accident in Magnolia occurring at 11:15 p.m. on Jackson St. in Magnolia. According to the Arkansas State Police report, Jacob A. Shireman, 20, of Magnolia, died in the accident.

According to the report, Shireman was a passenger in a 2011 Toyota TK driven by Jeffery F. Teague, 24, of El Dorado. The accident report stated the vehicle was traveling northbound on Jackson St., and failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, and struck a house.

The ASP report stated that weather conditions were clear, and road conditions were dry.

Teague was taken to Magnolia Regional Medical Center for treatment.

•The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest today of Scotty May, 43, of Magnolia, for driving on suspended drivers license.

•The Magnolia Police Department reports the arrest on Dec. 12 of Elizabeth Ann Barnes, 28, of Magnolia. She is charged with domestic battering  third degree and possession of marijuana.

According to the report, officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of N. Washington St. in reference to Barnes physically assaulting a family member. Upon investigation, it was discovered that she had marijuana on her person.
