The average retail price for a gallon of gasoline in Arkansas decreased 5.6 cents in the past week to $3.32 per gallon. The national average decreased 5.0 cents in the past week to $3.52 per gallon.

Prices in Arkansas are 17.3 cents lower than one month ago and 42.7 cents lower than a year ago. Nationally, prices are 13.8 cents lower than one month ago and 37.0 cents lower than a year ago.

The national average continues to see downward pressure from falling oil prices, which are currently around $90 a barrel. However, as Memorial Day approaches, bringing with it increased driving for summer vacations and travel, the chance of prices increases will also rise. In addition, more expensive fuel blends are used for the summer months to reduce pollution. The volatility of gasoline prices will also likely increase at the beginning of summer as most of the nation's scheduled refinery maintenance ends.
