Kathy’s Dance Arts Studio is planning a “Dancing With the Stars” show for the community, with all proceeds going to Columbia County’s Relay for Life. The show will be held Saturday, March 30, at 6:30 p.m. at the Magnolia Junior High Auditorium.

According to Karen Cox with KDAS, the goal is to raise $5,000.

Businesses or individuals are invited to sponsor dancers to perform in the show. Each volunteer will be paired up with an experienced dancer and will perform a two-minute routine as a duet during the show. Routines will be performed from all genres of dance including ballroom, tap, clogging, riverdance, hiphop, and more. The volunteer will get the final “say” when choosing music, style, and costuming.

The cost to sponsor a dancer is $100 and this includes all lessons to prepare for the performance, plus a half page ad in the program book and two tickets for the show. This should only require three or four practices that will last around 45 minutes and will be worked around participants’ schedules.

To keep the show time under two hours, only 25 acts can be accepted. Organizers hope to have community members from as many industries and organizations as possible. Doctors, educators, preachers, public officers, firemen, business owners, managers, and anyone who wants to have fun for a good cause should consider taking part. The deadline for entries is March 1.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance or at the door.

Scheduled in conjunction with the “Dancing with the Stars” show is “Crowns for a Cure Pageant,” to be held Saturday, March 30, at 10 a.m. at the MJHS Auditorium.

Age groups will be as follows: 0-23 mths, 2-3 yrs, 4-6 yrs, 7-9 yrs, 10-12 yrs, and 13-16 yrs. Age divisions may be split if there is a large number of contestants in a particular group.

Entry fee is $40 (includes T-shirt). Categories include photogenic, prettiest hair, prettiest eyes, and best dressed. Optional categories — including photogenic — have no influence on overall score used to determine queens in age divisions.

Contestants will compete in T-shirts that will be provided the morning of the pageant. Shirts will be turquoise blue with bubblegum pink design. Contestants who wish to have the design sent to them when it is ready may email krenee24@aol.com. Shirts will be handed out the morning of the pageant.

Contestants may wear anything they wish with their shirt (shorts, capris, skirts, jeans, tutus, etc.) There are no rules, and “anything goes.” Contestants may accessorize with hats and props as well.

Doors will open at 9 a.m. on the morning of the pageant, and the stage will be open at this time for practice. Contestants may also pick up shirts and contestant numbers at this time. Photogenic pictures should be turned in by 9:45 a.m.

Every contestant will receive a crown. Queens will receive pink ribbon crowns, as well as a sash and trophy. Runners-up will receive crown and trophy and optional category winners will receive a crown and sash.

Winners will be announced on stage that evening at the “Dancing With the Stars” fundraiser and also during the Relay for Life event held in April.

Each contestant will be allowed one chaperone admitted for free. All others will be $5 each. Ages five and under are free of charge. All proceeds benefit Columbia County Relay for Life.

No unsportsmanlike conduct will be tolerated. All judges’ decisions are final and no score sheets will be given out after the pageant. Photogenic pictures should be picked up immediately following competition.

Deadline to enter is March 15. Checks should be made payable to Team KDAS. Forms may be dropped off at KDAS, or mailed to KDAS, 620 E. North, Magnolia, Ark. 71753.

Photogenic pictures should not be turned in with forms, but may be submitted the day of the pageant.
