SAU volleyball announces summer camps
Southern Arkansas volleyball coach Steven Gream has announced several camps that the Lady Mulerider program will be conducting this summer.
Developmental/all-skills clinics will be conducted each Saturday over a six-week period beginning June 9 and lasting through July 14. Each Saturday session will meet for four hours from 10 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-3 p.m. in the W.T. Watson Athletic Center at SAU.
The sessions will cover the basic skills in all areas of volleyball, with participants divided by grade and skill levels. Coaches will teach passing, serving, hitting, digging, some blocking and team play.
The cost is $200 per participant, with a $30 deposit required, and includes a free t-shirt.
A team camp will be held Thursday and Friday, July 12-13, for varsity, junior varsity or junior high teams, and is designed to help teams improve their overall performance with quality playing opportunities.
The two days are a competition team camp and does not involve skills instruction. Teams participating will play round robin or pool play the first day to set up the second day which will involve a double elimination tournament.
Check-in will be held Thursday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center with play beginning at noon. Check-out will be on Friday, July 13, following the teams’ last match.
Costs are $60 per player for teams with eight or more members and are commuting, or a $480 rate for teams with less than eight members.
The charge is $75 per player for those staying overnight in an SAU dorm, and $95 per player if you prefer to add meals in the Southern Arkansas cafeteria. A $100 team deposit is required. Those staying overnight should bring sheets, pillows, towels and personal items.
The Lady Mulerider volleyball program will also bring their camp to interested schools by providing satellite camps during June, July and early August, if schools’ team’s summer schedules don’t allow for them to travel to summer camps.
SAU’s volleyball program will travel to schools and conduct one, two or three-day camps at their respective gymnasiums, with the schools supplying the net, balls and a minimum of 12 participants. Camp instruction will be based on what each school’s respective coach needs for their program.
Each day will consist of four hours of instruction, with costs being $40 per camper for one day, $60 for two days and $90 for three days, with a $20 deposit per camper.
On-line registration forms can be found at www.muleridervolleyballcamps.com. Registration forms can also be printed out and mailed in at the designated address.
