No other runs would be scored until the final out of the top of the ninth inning, when Doug Shields, who pitched 8 ⅔ innings, gave up a three-run home run to Henderson State’s Josh Salmon.

Head baseball coach Steve Browning went to the bullpen after the game-tying runs, going to Justin Thomas to get the final out of the inning.

Leading off the bottom of the ninth inning for the Muleriders, Trey Buck doubled down the left field line. Buck would move to third on a sacrifice bunt by Rafael Thomas and the following batter, David Allday, was intentionally walked. Buck scored the winning run on the next at bat after a sacrifice fly by Brady Capshaw.
