Salvation Army Maj. LeeAnn Nelson calls it an incredible Christmas miracle, reports the Associated Press. The Town Talk reports that after people in Alexandria learned that thieves had stolen 10 bicycles the agency meant to give poor kids, they gave the Salvation Army more than 130 bicycles and more than $10,000.
The donated bikes were given out Thursday. The Salvation Army originally had 30 bikes and hundreds of bags of toys for more than 200 Rapides Parish families. Thieves broke in through a window and stole 10 of the bicycles. Nelson says business, families, city employees and even Rapides Parish Jail inmates gave money or bicycles.
