El Dorado man charged with animal cruelty after breaking miniature Chihuahua’s neck during domestic dispute

A man accused in El Dorado of using his hands to kill a miniature Chihuahua is charged with felony animal cruelty, according to the Associated Press. The El Dorado News Times reports that 29-year-old Leopoldo D. Apodaca was arrested Wednesday for allegedly breaking the dog’s neck.

Apodaca’s girlfriend told police that she and Apodaca were involved in a domestic dispute, which allegedly prompted Apodaca to harm the dog. A phone number for Apodaca could not be located. But police say he told officers when he was arrested that the dog had been hit by a vehicle and that he “put it out of its misery.”

The Union County Jail roster showed Apodaca was still being held Thursday and that he has a Friday scheduled court appearance. It was unclear if he has a lawyer.
