Bossier Parish Sheriff Larry Deen says a deputy at the parish’s Maximum Security Facility in Plain Dealing spotted a fire and rushed to a burning house but was unable to save the 74-year-old woman inside, reports the AP. Her name has not been released.
Deen says that as the deputy drove to the fire Monday afternoon, two delivery drivers told him a woman was in the burning house.
He says the house was fully ablaze when the deputy arrived. He ran to a window and shouted, heard someone or something fall, then kicked in a door and shouted. Nobody answered and the flames and smoke became too intense for him to get in.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
Firefighters put out the fire and found the woman’s body.
