Monroe police have arrested a woman accused of using an illegal water meter, according to the AP. The News-Star reports 44-year-old Adrien Hamilton of Monroe was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center Friday on a charge of theft of utilities.
According to an arrest affidavit, police were called to Hamilton’s address in reference to a reported utility theft.
Once police arrived, they spoke to an employee of Monroe Public Works, who said the water meter in Hamilton’s residence belonged on another residence. The worker said the meter was removed from a residence across the street.
When police spoke to Hamilton, they determined she had taken $656 worth of utilities from the city. She told police she did not know how the meter was attached to her residence.
Bond was not set.
