Ark. has spent $2.6B of its $3.1B allotment of federal stimulus money

Arkansas officials say that 85 percent of the $3.1 billion awarded the state through the federal stimulus program has been spent, the AP reports.

Officials with the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration told a legislative panel Wednesday that more than $2.6 billion in federal stimulus money the state received had been spent as of June 30. The department reported that more than 4,200 jobs have been created through the stimulus program.

The state spent more than $1 billion in stimulus money during the second quarter of the year. Nearly $820 million of the stimulus awarded the state was for unemployment insurance, and more than $807 million of that has been spent. The state has spent $227 million of nearly $332 million awarded for highway projects.
