Dozens of area residents were on hand at a candlelight vigil Friday evening at the U.S. Post Office in Waldo to honor Betty Cooper, 72, of Waldo, who was slain at the post office July 22. Her accused killer now faces capital murder charges in her death. Banner-News photographer/reporter Ashley Whitelaw was on scene at the vigil, and reports that the mood was somber and respectful as the crowd offered a prayer for Cooper and her family.
