Ark. Oil & Gas Commission votes to establish moratorium on disposal wells in Central Arkansas

Due to the recent bout of earthquake activity in Central Arkansas around the Guy area, the state Oil and Gas Commission, under the leadership of Commissioner Mike Davis of Magnolia, has voted to shut down one natural gas drilling disposal well and to ban new ones from being drilled in that region.

According to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, Davis said, “Our first and foremost obligation is to the safety of the citizens of the State of Arkansas.”

The decision may come as no surprise to Columbia Countians who may have read the recent Banner-News coverage of an AIPRPO speaker at the Magnolia Rotary. Paige Miller, representative of the Arkansas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association predicted to local Rotarians last week that the moratorium should be expected soon.

And here it is . . . so what are your thoughts?
