Second arrest in alleged Bossier Parish adoption scam

Authorities have arrested a Haughton man accused of fleecing Louisiana, Virginia and Kentucky residents out of more than $19,000 in an adoption scam, reports the Associated Press. The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Joshua Wright is being held on $240,000 bond. A news release Friday says he’s the boyfriend of 21-year-old Heather Hill, who was arrested June 2.

Their public defenders could not be immediately reached for comment.

Hill allegedly told an adoption agency in October that she was pregnant, although she had an abortion in August. Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Davis says Wright paid for the abortion and signed a statement giving up paternal rights to a nonexistent baby.

Davis says Wright was arrested Wednesday in Greenville, Texas, and has been booked in Bossier Parish on charges including felony theft and racketeering.
