U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin has returned to the United States after spending the Memorial Day holiday weekend in Afghanistan, the AP reports.
Griffin says he and other members of the House Armed Services Committee were in Afghanistan on Saturday and Sunday. He says members of the congressional delegation met with military leaders, including Gen. David Petraeus, and got to visit with soldiers before returning to Washington D.C.
Griffin says he also was able to deliver to soldiers cards expressing encouragement that were made by students from Collegeville Elementary in Bryant and children from Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock.
The group also stopped in Europe for a meeting with NATO leaders in Belgium, where they were briefed on operations in Afghanistan and Libya.
