God bless our troops . . .

We here at the Banner-News have always been vocal supporters of our troops, and when we saw the dog tags of our state’s fallen soldiers hanging from this carbine, it sent shivers down our spine. If you have a chance today, we hope you’ll make a few minutes to stop by the American Legion, 325 Legion Drive in Magnolia, to wander among the flags and photos of our fallen heroes. The Arkansas Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial is quite moving and well worth the visit.

But just in case you can’t make it out today, we’ve posted a few photos – including some pictures of the area motorcycle riders who are out right now raising funds for a permanent monument – for you here.

The memorial can be seen from the roadway on Legion Drive. A pair of combat boots, a carbine and a helmet stand before it, as seen above.

Before each of the flags stand a plaque with the photo and bio of a fallen Arkansas soldier, as seen above.

Above, riders head out for the first leg of a ride meant to raise funds for a permanent monument to be placed in Jacksonville at the Museum of Military History. The riders left at 11 a.m. and the first bikers are expected to begin returning around 5 p.m. this evening, organizers tell us.

The Arkansas Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial makes an incredible backdrop for the riders as they leave the American Legion this morning for the first leg of their ride.

And as a by the way, you’ll find the American Legion Auxiliary at Walmart in Magnolia today, where they are selling items like cookbooks and holding a drawing for a great prize! Stop by and visit them!
