A mechanic is dead after a big rig with brake problems he was trying to repair rolled on him near Ogden, reports the Associated Press.
Police say 59-year-old Gary Walker of Ashdown was summoned Wednesday to a weigh station on U.S. 71 to fix the brakes on a tractor-trailer that was hauling a bulldozer.
Arkansas Highway Police wouldn’t allow the truck owned by Harrington Forestry and Maintenance back on the road until the brakes were repaired.
The Little River County Sheriff’s Office told the Texarkana Gazette that Walker asked the truck’s driver to make sure the brakes were set, but before the driver could make it to the cab, the truck rolled backward, crushing Walker under the rear tandem tires.
The accident is under investigation. Walker worked as a mechanic for Harrington.
