The Hot Springs woman who won $1 million in Saturday’s Powerball drawing says she and her husband were on the verge of homelessness, reports the AP. Thirty-two-year-old Mary JoAnn Gray Dartt told The Sentinel-Record that she is unemployed and that she and her husband were served with an eviction notice two weeks ago. She says she spent her last $4 on lottery tickets — then didn’t check the winning numbers until Tuesday when she saw a newspaper report that the winning ticket was sold in Hot Springs.
Dartt says the winning numbers are her husband’s birthday, her birthday and their ages. She says her husband had never played the lottery and chose the numbers. She says she’s looking into buying a house, will create a trust fund and make charitable donations.
