A state Senate committee has passed a bill to prohibit public money from paying for abortions in the cases of rape or incest for women who are eligible for public programs like Medicaid, reports the Associated Press.
The Senate Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee on Wednesday passed the measure proposed by Republican Sen. Cecile Bledsoe of Rogers. It now heads to the Senate floor for a vote.
Bledsoe’s proposal would allow public money to fund abortions only when the life of the woman is in danger. The bill doesn’t apply to women who don’t qualify for public health programs.
