An Oklahoma man wanted for assaulting his wife has been found dead in southwestern Arkansas, reports the Associated Press. Arkansas State Police say the body of 41-year-old Stephen Cox of Broken Bow was found Sunday with a gunshot wound to the chest near Millwood Lake northeast of Ashdown. A shotgun was found near the body and Special Agent Hays McWhirter told the Texarkana Gazette that it appears Cox shot himself.
Cox was wanted in McCurtain County in a Jan. 15 and 16 assault on his wife. McWhirter said Cox told a friend in Ashdown that he had an auto accident while driving from Little Rock to Oklahoma and hitch-hiked to Ashdown. McWhirter says Cox spent Friday night with the friend then disappeared Saturday with the friend’s shotgun.
