Special election set for Garland County

Hot Springs builder Bruce Cozart is set to formally receive the Republican nomination for a vacant Arkansas House seat, reports the Associated Press. The Hot Springs Sentinel-Record reports that the Garland County Republican Party will meet Thursday night to nominate the 55-year-old Cozart, who is the only GOP candidate to file for the March 8 special election.

Cozart will face Democrat Jerry Rephan in the special election. The county election commission says no independent or write-in candidates had filed for the seat as of Wednesday.  In the general election on Nov. 23, Republican Keith Crass defeated Democrat Larry Williams, but Crass died six days before the election.

Incumbent Democrat Rick Saunders couldn’t seek re-election because of term limits.
