News Flash: Republican candidate dies

The campaign of Keith Crass, Republican candidate for an Arkansas House of Representatives seat from Garland County, says he has died, reports the Associated Press.

The 51-year-old Crass, an accountant, was running for the District 24 seat now held by Rick Saunders, a Democrat. The Democratic candidate for the seat is Garland County Judge Larry Williams.

A news release from the Crass campaign said Crass died Wednesday morning of an unknown medical condition. It is too late to remove Crass’ name from the ballot for the Nov. 2 general election, and early voting has been under way for 10 days.

Sandra McGrew, a spokeswoman for the secretary of state’s office, said a special election would be held to fill the seat if more voters should cast ballots for Crass than for Williams.
