According to a press release from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, workers will be sealing the roadway on State Highway 79 to State Highway 371 between Waldo and McNeil within the next few days.
During this process, Bituminous Surface Treatment, or crushed stone and liquid asphalt, is applied, sealing cracks and providing a durable surface for future use.
It is estimated that loose materials may take four to eight days to be swept off the roadway, posing a problem if drivers are moving at a high speed.
“Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling on a highway that is undergoing this treatment because the crushed stone can cause glass breakage when it is kicked up by a vehicle that is traveling too fast for conditions,” the release stated.
Signs will be posted to warn drivers of speed restrictions. The release added that local law enforcement officers are often also a part of traffic control efforts.
